What age does the educare centre cater for?

The educare centre caters for children from 1- 5 years of age.

Does the educare centre potty train children?

Yes, the educare centre potty trains from 2 years old (provided the children are in the 2 year old class and hey are emotionally and verbally ready)

What activities does the educare centre offer?

The activities presented in the classrooms are creative activities, such as painting, free drawing, collage, playdough etc. The teachers schedule is also set at music activities, movement, story, daily discussions.

The educare follows weekly themes from the ages of 2 years old and up. This allows the teachers to prepare all activities presented to follow a theme, as children learn through repetition. It also allows parents to be involved by contributing towards the themes in class.

Do the teachers at Villa Maria Educare follow a set syllabus?

Yes, we do follow the letterland syllabus. This, however, is only offered to the 5 year old group (Pre-grade R) as they will attend grade R the following year. This together with other book work, which involves extensive learning of colours, shapes and numbers, allows the child to familiarise themselves and to be school ready. However, for the younger children, the educare follows weekly themes. This allows the teachers to prepare all activities presented to follow one theme, as children learn through repetition. It also allows parents to be involved by contributing towards the themes in class.

Are the meals at Villa Maria freshly cooked?

Yes, the educare offers freshly cooked healthy meals, which are cooked daily in the kitchen on our premises.

Does Villa Maria separate the age groups?

Yes, at our Educare each age group has its own class.

What is the staff to children ratio at Villa Maria?

We have 5 classrooms at Villa Maria Educare Centre. There is 1 teacher and 1 assistant in each class. However, the 1 year old class has 3 caregivers and the 2 year old class has 1 teacher has 2 assistants.

What security measures are offered at the educare centre?

At Villa Maria Educare Centre, the children are under constant supervision by the teachers and assistants. The educare centre has security cameras in and around the building. We are also linked to City Bowl Armed Response. Emergency procedures are practiced on a regular basis as prescribed by the Social Welfare Department.

Does the educare close for school holidays?

We are open throughout the year, except public holidays (please see in school policy for the days that the school would be closed). 

We are, however, closed in December each year for a 3 week break over the Christmas and New Year season.
